Animal Refuge Furness

Description

An operational charity for 30 years, Animal Refuge Furness is a registered animal rescue that works throughout the Barrow-in-Furness area to find new homes for stray and abandoned animals.

Previously known as Animal Rescue Furness, this animal rescue charity works with Barrow Borough Dog Pound to support the dogs that are taken there by the council. The council keep the dogs there for seven days by which time, if they have not been claimed, they can be legally destroyed. In order to stop this happening, Animal Refuge takes over the expenses for these dogs. Kennelling and veterinary fees for these dogs amount to tens of thousands of pounds each year, meaning that the animal rescue charity is dependent on the proceeds from their charity shop, alongside adoption fees, cash donations and fundraising events to survive. The dogs in the Barrow Pound are safe because of the work the charity does and the funds we work tirelessly to raise.

Animal Refuge also works with cats, some having been sheltered by our animal rescue charity for as long as ten years, just waiting to find a new and loving home. We welcome visitors so if you would like to come and meet any of our animals we would love to see you!
