Santa Paws 2014 - Birmingham Dogs Home

Why support our #SantaPaws Appeal?

Our #SantaPaws Appeal was affectionately created over five years ago in a bid to promote homeless and abandonded pets and the rescues that care for them during one of their busiest times of the year!

If you've ever donated to one of our Santa Paws appeals or are considering donating to us this year, please read the mini case study below, which demonstrates how your donation will make a huge difference

Birmingham Dogs Home

December can be a very busy month for Birmingham Dogs Home, with dogs arriving daily at both of our Centres and with our rehoming levels dropping in the months of December and January time.

With an increase of dogs arriving, and with the dogs staying in the kennels longer due to our rehoming levels dropping, this has a huge effect on our resources, as we have extra mouths to feed, extra veterinary costs, and more kennels to keep heated.

In 2014, the running cost for BDH was over £1.7M, and we rescued over 3, 600 dogs.  Our veterinary bills alone exceeded £146,000 with more dogs arriving with skin complaints and various injuries and ailments.

With the lack of Government funding, the support and loyalty we received from Support Adoption For Pets in 2014 was crucial to enable us to continue our vital work in helping all the lost and abandoned dogs that walked through our doors.

We are looking forward to taking part in the Support Adoption For Pets Santa Paws 2015 Appeal and are privileged to be a part of an amazing fundraising drive that helps so many deserving animal Charities, like us, over the difficult Christmas and New Year period.

With a weekly cost of £465 per dog to care for, a donation from Support Adoption For Pets will be immensely helpful to Birmingham Dogs Home as it helps us get through the difficult Christmas period and care for the many dogs that arrive daily.

Our new Birmingham Centre opened its doors in October, at Catherine-de-Barnes, Solihull, and our dogs are enjoying their new surroundings. Our state-of-the-art Dog Rescue and Welfare Centre offers first class facilities for all the stray and abandoned dogs, and also for our hardworking staff and supporters.
