Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, Support Adoption For Pets

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home provide a vital service to the community by trying, wherever possible, to reunite owners with their missing pets. But there are times when owners cannot be found or are unable to cope; that’s when their re-homing scheme comes in

"Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home (EDCH) has been a safe haven to stray animals since 1883, and still rescues over a thousand lost or abandoned dogs and cats every year.

We provide a vital service to the community by trying, wherever possible, to reunite owners with their missing animals. But there are times when owners cannot be found or are unable to cope – that’s when our re-homing programme comes in, when we find new homes for unwanted dogs and cats.

We applied for a grant from Support Adoption for Pets last year to replace the old metal bars of a whole kennel block with more dog-friendly glass fronts. We were extremely fortunate to be awarded a grant from Support Adoption for Pets of an incredible £25,000 in September 2014. We started work on the kennel block almost immediately and by the start of this year the dogs were relaxing in a quieter and less stressful environment while they waited for their forever home.

The process of applying for the grant with Support Adoption For Pets was a very smooth process. The team were always on hand to answer queries on the phone or by email. We really appreciated the time taken by the team to come up to the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home to meet our staff, residents and hear more about our proposal in person.

We are very grateful to Support Adoption For Pets. Without their generous grant we would not have been able to implement this project."
